1910 - 2024

The GEDIA Story

In 1910, Anselm Dingerkus founded the company with his brother Ferdinand.

Initially, the brothers were involved in the production of jewelry before the production program was expanded in 1925 to include hollow sheet metal handles for enamel tableware.

In the 1950's, the company moved into the production of plastic handles and at the same time began manufacturing pressed, stamped, and drawn metal parts, particularly for automotive production. At the end of the 1990's, production plants were set up in Nowa Sól (Poland) and Sta. Margarida (Spain). A plant in Hungary, a second plant in Poland and new plants in China and Mexico followed.

Engineering centers were also established in France, the USA and Sweden. With the sale of the handle division in 2003, the company focused on the development of lightweight automotive technologies and chassis components. In 2016, the GEDIA Automotive Group grew by two new locations - Michigan (USA) and Pune (India).

In June 2018, the go-ahead was given for the construction of the new “Askay II” production plant, which went into operation in 2019. In 2022, a new production plant in Georgia (USA) was integrated into the production network. Both German and American OEMs are supplied with body components from there.

Anselm and Ferdinand Dingerkus found the company Gebrüder Dingerkus in Attendorn, which initially dealt with the production of jewelry.
1925
Expansion of the production program to include hollow sheet metal handles for enamel tableware.
1951
Entry into the production of plastic handles. In the following years, up to 10 million handles are delivered worldwide every year.
1955
Start of production of pressed, stamped, and drawn metal parts, especially for the automotive industry.
1994
Commissioning of the first spot welding robot for larger assemblies. Welding systems with around 200 robots are currently in use throughout the group.
1995
Installation of the first transfer press in the newly built Attendorn press shop. Around 30 transfer presses with a capacity of up to 2,000 tons are currently in use across the Group.
1998
Construction of production plants in Poland (Nowa Sól) and Spain (Sta. Margarida). Construction of an assembly plant and logistics centre on the Askay in Attendorn.
2001
Establishment of a technology center to expand engineering capacities and expansion of new tool construction in Attendorn.
2003
Sale of the handles division and further focus on the production of complex body modules with automated production systems.
2007
Construction of a production plant in Hungary (Tata) for the forming of tubes and subsequent welding into crash components.
2008
Construction of another assembly plant in Poland (Nowa Sól) for the just-in-time production of larger body modules. Establishment of an engineering center in China (Nanjing).
2011
Construction of the Hotforming Center in Attendorn and project planning of the first hot forming line in Poland.
2013
Pre-development and prototype construction move into the new GEDIA Research and Development Center in Attendorn.
2014
Plant opening in Mexico and start of the new hot forming line in Attendorn.
2015
Construction of the first production facility in India (Pune).
2016
New production and development site in the United States (Detroit, Michigan) to open up the North American market.
2019
Commissioning of the new production plant “Askay II” in Attendorn.
2021
Construction of a new production plant in Georgia (USA).
2022
Establishment of a joint venture with Shenyang Huaxing Machine Industry Co. Ltd.
