Workplace integration

GEDIA has ordered an accessible press hardening line from AP&T for its production plant. This adaptation means that the line has been designed so that employees with physical disabilities can monitor and control the process without hindrance.

“For us at GEDIA, it is important to make our workplace more inclusive. By adapting our new press hardening line for accessibility, we are taking a step in the right direction. It will be designed so that operators with physical limitations can monitor the process,” says Björn Müller, project manager for new machines at GEDIA.

The new line has a larger free area in front of the control panel to accommodate a wheelchair. The control panel itself will also be installed at a lower height than usual.

If an unexpected event occurs that cannot be controlled from the control panel, a colleague can be called for help.

“We have so-called split work teams in all our production areas so that no one is alone,” says Müller.

The new line, which is based on the latest press hardening technology, will be used to manufacture body parts for a number of car manufacturers. The plant already has two press hardening lines from AP&T.

“In view of our long-standing collaboration with GEDIA, it is now extremely exciting to be able to contribute to making production more efficient and to integrating people with physical disabilities in the role of plant operator,” says Jörgen Theander, Senior Customer Project Manager at AP&T.

AP&T's new, barrier-free press hardening line has a larger free area in front of the control panel, which simplifies the work for operators who use a wheelchair.
